I made this piece to commemorate turning 26. This means a full decade of the food service, retail, and hospitality industry. This also means a full decade of being treated as a second-class citizen. I have been called many things, a fucker, shithead, pizzaboy, coffeeboy, and told that I will never amount to anything in life. Manners come so seldom in this world you are taken off guard when someone says please. Now I understand that I chose the lifestyle I have and it is my choice to not work a nine to five. That being said, you chose your lifestyle and you choose to work a nine to five, and if you feel like you are unhappy, looked over, or generally underappreciated. Get a new job, please do not go out into the world and emotionally shit on the help because that is what happens to you all day long. It’s always the rude or high maintenance customers who complain about poor service. Well, I’ll give you the advice of a lifetime: the golden rule, take it everywhere you go. I came up with this piece while duking it out in the “weeds" of a Starbucks lunch rush. When one of the rudest women I have ever had the pleasure of “serving” made me make her iced venti quad shot extra caramel caramel frappuccino lite for the third time because it was not sweet enough. The poor thing could still taste the coffee. I wanted to lash out at her with all of the ferocity of a grizzly bear but all she heard “thank you and have a nice day.” Anyone who works in this industry knows exactly what I am talking about. This is a pencil and acrylic rendering encased in epoxy resin. It is currently up for grabs.
